A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God. Ecclesiastes 2:24
As autumn approaches, some are thinking that they don’t want summer to be over, while others are looking forward to the cooler air, colorful fall leaves, roasting marshmallows, drinking apple cider with cinnamon, and getting a slice of pecan or pumpkin pie. As each season arrives, the weather and what it brings causes many different reactions, but the truth is, no matter the reaction, God is in control. He fills each day with many blessings, and it is up to us see them for what they are.
If we must toil and labor, the joy doesn’t come from the task itself, but what we accomplish by completing the task. Doing what we do to the best of our ability, and giving thanks to God that we are able to do so, is where we find the satisfaction in the work. In other words, I don’t have to be thrilled at pulling weeds from my flower bed, and I don’t have to be thankful that the weeds are there. I just need to pull the weeds and be grateful that I am able to complete the task. Once the task is completed, I am able to enjoy the beauty of my labor. When I sit on the porch and see the lovely flowers, while sipping on a cold glass of sweet iced tea, I find the satisfaction in my efforts. I also see God’s hand at work, as well as, my own.
The Lord provides for us, not only eat and drink that we need for our physical survival, but provides the means for our spiritual feeding, as well. He provides for us because He loves us. He will provide Autumn for those who are looking forward to it, and for those who aren’t looking forward to it. Simply learning to enjoy what God gives us is the first step in our finding satisfaction in life.

Happy Fall!

PS. We are always looking for new recruits!!

The Sonshine Sisters is a group that varies in ages and talents and works to help connect Carlisle Christian Church to our community. We are always searching for ways to be involved, whether it is hosting a meal for the local chapter of “Redhatters,” or working on various fundraisers (including the annual Kids Consignment Sale. In the past, our efforts have connected us with people from several communities and churches as we try to help, especially in the current economy. But no matter how we are involved, we enjoy ourselves.

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month in the Church Fellowship Hall at 6:30pm. We are always looking to add new members. If you are interested or have more questions, just come to one of our meetings or ask a church staff member to connect you with one of us.
